Water / nutrients schedule in Flower

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone had thoughts on how often to give water vs nutrients during flower stage? I’m giving water/nutrients every 3 days and I tend to give 2 x nutrients followed by 1 x ph controlled water. My plant seems to be ok with this, no signs of burn or deficiency, but I wondered whether alternating 50/50 might be recommended? I’m in mid flower at 4 weeks from flip. Thanks in advance for your views and experiences.

I hammer my plants with nutrients in flower. Never just water unless I see some nute burn at the end of the tips, which is what I like to see, then I’ll run water one time to let it recover, then hammer it again lol

Thanks MJ. I’ll go with your strategy then and keep an eye out on the tips.

Just monitor your runoff to see the ec in VS what comes out. That will tell you how much it’s eating each fertigation

It also depends on what you are growing in and the plants themselves. I have some in coco that never ever have access to plain water and some in organic soil that only get something added to their water once every 2 weeks so there is no real one size fits all answer to that one unfortunately.

You feed her nutrient for she is a dragon and was raise in a magical forest lab that has a background of being a hybrid so then u give her what she needs up till u see that little yellow on the leaf tip and use that as your guide to kno her limits dont push but she will love that little heat in the kitchen

Good point crackadoo!

Hi Blunt. I don’t normally monitor the EC, what levels should I be aiming for? And what is VS?
I usually only measure the pH of my runoff. I focus mostly on controlling DLI and VPD.

Thanks Crackadoo, I’m using standard potting soil from local garden centre mixed with perlite and chemical nutrients.

In that type of mix i usually feed every second watering so depending on pot size im probably feeding once a week. If the plants are taking it well i will generally increase the strength of nutrients on that one feed rather than giving it every time.

Hi both. I just checked the EC of my prepared nutrient mix and it is 2.6, which I think is too high - on reading some info target in flower should be 2.0-2.3. So I will dilute my mix before next feed tomorrow. Apart from that I’m torn between MJ’s ‘hammer her’ and Crackadoo’s 50/50. Maybe my 2xN + 1xW is the compromise way to go…? or experiment and just listen to the girl… Have a good day!

If you have healthy plants in potting soil with no sign of nutrient deficiencies or excesses I’d recommend continuing what you are doing.

Unless you feel your plants are underperforming in some way?

It’s been my experience that when you start fixing what ain’t broke you wind up chasing your tail

I agree! I’m in soil too and really push those nutrients hard. I did wanna clarify that when I said I use “water” only if the plants are showing nute burn, I actually still add Brix which makes it like a lighter compost tea essentially. I feel like I way overfeed and never really had an issue. My last harvest was rock hard nugs too

To further that, I just harvested black strap and the buds don’t seem as dense and I probably pushed my nutrients even harder than my last run. So, genetics play a huge role on bud density as well.

That I wish I could tell you but I run organics. It’s been years since I grew with synthetic. I just know that’s what people ask when trouble shooting. I’ll try and freshen up my memory today and get back to you on that. Or you could check out green magic gardening on yt. He always talks about measuring input and runoff. He’s who I’m gonna watch today to get you an answer

VS is verse like one reading VS another

Lights play a huge part in density as well

For sure! I’m running the mars hydro ts2000 in my 2x4 and it seems to put off plenty, I think the max I’ve had to run the light is 75% and that’s when I’m pushing the dli and ppfd. I would like to upgrade next year though but haven’t researched what I’d want yet tho

I can’t recommend HLG enough for lights. I’ve run all kinds of budget lamps from when I first started. Once I went to ac infinity I swore that was the last light I’d ever buy. I saw my buddy using HLG and saw his results were much better than mine. I went and got a HLG blackbird which is meant for a 4x4 and I’m pulling 1.5 to 2 lbs per harvest from it in my 5x5. I’m now looking at the HLG tomahawk for the 5x5. Once I get it I’m getting a 4x4 as a veg tent with the blackbird.
