Starting a new grow and I wonder sometimes if I start counting weeks incorrectly. Growing autos in Coco + perlite. 18/6 light schedule under my 1000w Mars and spider LEDs
I’ve always followed this schedule, Im sure it varies based on a million different variables but this has always worked for me. (And please by all means if someone feels that the information I provided is incorrect please feel free to correct me so I can add to my knowledge base and adjust my grow calendar accordingly thank you)
Germination (3-10 days) Seedling (2-3 weeks) Vegetative (3-16 weeks)
- You choose how long you want to vegetate them for
When do you start nutes?
That I would have to refer you to someone else like @Rolling_Stoned for instance (hopefully you don’t mind me shouting you out like that I’m pretty sure you can help them with this one) I am more of a good old-fashioned H2O and sunlight kind of guy
Usually a week or 2 after the seed sprouts. I start off at a 1/4 strength and then work my way up. Happy growing!
Great advice. I have a tendency to over mother my plants. Drying the soil in between watering is very important. I also like to employ diatomaceous earth. It works as a mine field of broken glass and razor blades against pests!
Both aman and Steve make great points.
Start slow with nutes. Preventative measures against pests are better than having to deal with them at a crucial time.
They really dont need much for the first 3 weeks or so.
Thanks, I appreciate the input. I had gotten lazy with my last few grows and I wanted to get back on track
I grow in 70/30 coco/perlite without other amendments, using General Hydroponics flora series with a slightly modified version of the Coco for Cannabis feed chart. I suggest nutrients in all water from the beginning, feed daily to 20+% runoff and do not allow dry-backs between . . . coco coir is a soilless media and should be treated more like a hydro medium than dirt.
As for when growth stages change, I was taught that they are seedlings while they are building the first roots (that first week or so they just seem to sit and not do anything) and are in veg when they start producing new leaves and branches.
I nute my plants as soon as I feel they need, and or can tolerate it. I am still trying to shake the idea if nutrients until the leaf tips turn brown. Not the best method for beginners. I did however nute my first plants at 200% strength. The tips turned brown. And all the leaves turned into witches claws! Curled on the edges and everything. First time I’ve done that. But a learning experience. They all made it fortunately. Took a few weeks to get my nute levels back into check. And I add to my soil. NOT when the are young though. Maui Wowie is about to get a double dose if she doesn’t green up…lol
Great advice.
Another thing I have learned along the way is that different strains tolerate different strengths of dosages.
I’ve fed some strains high N during veg and they cant get enough. Where as the same dose on another plant fried it a bit. Same goes for PK.
I looked up and learned about my plants and tailored a feeding regimen for each of them. They are all pretty close to the same so it isnt that labour intensive.
As others have said on here…start slow with nutes and work tour way up. I have a blue dream and Amnesia haze that are now getting 125% of the recommended dose. They are thriving.
Happy growing to all!
It goes from seedling to veg when it doesnt need excess humidity, like when you remove it from a domed environment. This is roughly around 7-10 days
