Hey guys so I have 1 Sativa I’m growing outdoors (I bring her in at night we have nasty Fischer cats and racoons that destroy everything, What shade leaves should I trim and when? She’s about 14inches tall right now and I’m hoping to start flowering her in the next 2 weeks I have a shortened season in Massachusetts and I’m moving soon so any advice will help…and 1 more thing If I create a small wooden frame to place the plant in at night and cover the frame in a thick black trash bag to ensure 100% darkness will that work ?
I don’t think that you need to trim any leaves at the moment.
I’m sure a covered frame would work . . . I used a couple of old grey trash cans over one or two to get an earlier harvest back when I grew outside. Got to watch the heat though . . . worked better for me to cover after dark and uncover in morning before it got too hot.
I agree with froggy. She looks spread out plenty at the moment
Should the bigger leaves be trimmed? I feel like I should cut out the one that look like they are overwhelming the plant but I don’t want to do it at the wrong time or to much anyadvice
Hi chance, doesn’t look like you need to defoliate much. I always try to remove the lower leaves, which are not getting much light, also increases airflow.
If you cannot tuck a leave out of the way from blocking a Bud site, it has to go in my opinion, since at the end of the day, we want to grow buds not leaves.
Don’t be afraid to remove some leaves, it is in early flower and will still grow more for a few weeks.
Cool do you think my plant looks like it will give much yield? I mean does it look like it should only the one is in flower I believe. It’s way taller and like more stemmy them the others they are more bushy. If that makes sense I’ll parody some pics tonight of them individually
If I had to guess, comparing my past grows, maybe 35g dried per plant. Be happy if you get more.
Do you know how to properly dry and cure the buds? Those 2 last steps are quite literally the most important to the final product.
Im in mass as well up by haverhill and got fischer cats as well lol pain in the asses. As for box and bag trick it probably would work only thing i would be concerned about is airflow while they are bagged at night. I grow outdoors as well and used dark garden cloth to wrap the cage and prevented a lot of light going in everytime i pulled into my driveway. Some nights the moon was bright and lit the whole yard up and didnt seem to effect them but im assuming they got some deal with the moon lol. As for trimming your spacing looks good and sunlight seems to hit most of the plant so id say trim as needed. Any leaf thats blocking a flower sight and cant be tucked id say clip ( i suggest tucking first so no real stress on plant) but looking good so far and happy growing
just realized that post was last year not sure why it popped up as new
Holy cow! Old thread!
Wanna explain the last 2 steps a little bit, for the class?
I’m need all the help that I can get I’m really hoping someone will take the time to help me along the way
Is that 35 grams for the one in flower or estimating all four
I see per plant now ok well damn when I bought the seeds it said the trod would be way more can I get some direction on how to do better next go round. 35 grams is not even going to pay the light bull
Those grams per plant are based off perfect grow conditions which most of us hobby growers dont have the luxury of so dont really trust the weight per plant when seed shopping. Also ive noticed when buying seeds and reading info they never tell you what size pot they grew in to get them numbers lol. Me personally i based seeds off grow conditions and resilence but just my personal preference
Where would I get my best yeilf I’m about to seed shop agian I have this light plus two more pretty close to the same as it. I have peters 20-20-20 fertilizer and I’m growing in the crawl space in my basement it’s about four feet high I can kinda control the temp and it has air flow through both ends of the area.
Best yield is hard to say since lots of other factors come into play but giving your grow conditions id say anything that has a high mold and pest resistance since doing a basement crawl space grow just to help minimize those issues also genetics of seed is a factor in yields and this is my personal thoughts on a description yield if it says 650 grams im hoping for 10% of that and anything more is A+ in my book since i dont have a lab or the proper knowledge those breeders have
Anything xxl like white widow xxl usually has high yields but again as beginner grower 10% or better of what they say it can yield is good to me and eventually we’ll start pulling 4oz or more a plant just takes time and learning
Will you be doing any type of training? That will help with yields and height managment since youll lose some height space for lighting
