Hopefully this will also help some others who made the same rookie mistake I made potting my seedlings and growing them in Miracle Gro. I did not come across any info about that when I started, and wasn’t paying so much attention to my soil not realizing how miracle gro can affect cannabis. So can some of the more experienced growers explain clearly why not Miracle Gro…and also what is the best way to proceed if you’ve already used it? I am close to harvesting my first 3 plants and they actually seem to have turned out pretty well despite my error. I did not add any nutes along the way and just used water, except for a little molasses in the water for about a week.
I’m growing in Miracle-Gro Organics for potted plants. Mine look identical to yours. I’d like to see why to not use it. I even use Miracle-gro Bloom Booster. All out doors. zkittlez my current grow.
Essentially there’s nothing wrong with using miracle gro, especially for new growers. The reason a lot of people say not to use it is because it has slow release nutrients. Now for myself as a more experienced grower, I like to be able to control my nutrients (prior to switching over to living soils. When I was using Potting mix, coco, etc) it just helped me be able to fix any deficiencies/excessive without worrying about making my medium too little or too hot nutrients.
I startedy some zkittles autoflowers in miracle grow potting soil. I checked the runoff ph and it was below 5. The leaves started to show brown spots. I just transplanted them, very carefully into ocean forest by happy happyfrog and added a generous amount of dolomite lime. We’ll see if they bounce back. They are about 5 weeks in. No flowers have formed yet.
That was my issue as well. Low PH. Once I corrected that, they took off.
One thing I like to do is bounce around with my ph. Different nutrients get taken up nat different ph levels. When I was using coco I’d do one water at 5.5 and the next would be higher at 5.9/6.0. I found it gave a better chance at a consistent nutrient uptake on all nutrients. I’ve attached a picture that shows where nutrients are uptake at what ph (also note that coco falls under hydro)

Interesting! I’ve been using a soil ph meter. Don’t know how accurate it is, but my ph has run just at the high end of 6 throughout the grow in all three pots without much variation. I don’t know if it matters, but I never used any nutes with the miracle grow, using just water which I would let stand for at least 24 hr. Overall, first grow seems pretty successful. Next time around I will use better soil and see if I can actually control the nutes, and see if it produces a more significant harvest. At least I’ve got a baseline to work from now. They sure smell goooood!
I’m also using an LED fixture from Freelicht.
I’ve used dolomite lime with miracle grow. That seemed to solve the ph problem for cannabis.
Miracle grow has way to much nitrogen in it it’s good for veg deffo not for flower that’s the only problem with miracle gro myself because u really don’t need to add much nutes only potassium in flower unless u need to fix problems ,
OK. From doing research I found that if your medium has wood objects in it, they absorb nitrogen as it decomposes and also produces heat. Which is why they have high nutrient levels, to compensate for decomposition. Some also have herbicides, fungicides and insecticides in them. You’d probably be better off with the dirt from you yard.
I used miracle grow, my last grow… had no issues and my buds were huge… don’t listen to bs…miracle grow had been used for decades for weed.
I’m currently using it now. No real issues until I started nutes.
Really don’t need to add nutes
newbie. didnt know.
I used nutes only when flowering… worked great
Decades ago they produced brick weed which was in dried squashed together weed that was like silage bails and tasted like it to
