I got a response from them but no joy yet, they are “setting things up” but there is a “lot that goes into it” = not any time soon haha. Yeah, their support is “enthusiastic” eh ![]()
Will keep an eye out though and cheers again for the offer.
I’ve heard good things about Strive, but I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the “Nutrient Friction” they are buzz wording now . . . any decent cannabis line addresses that in their feed charts and formulas.
Regardless, as they aren’t available to your address, have you looked at FloraFlex nutrients? I think their stuff is available in Spain . . . they have a good nutrient line and a custom “Turn and Burn” perpetual harvest feed/grow schedule that’s interesting. Photoperiod clones on a 7-10 day veg, harvesting about every 75 days.
Personally, I still run the GH Flora series line that I’ve used since 1994 . . . I’ve looked at tons of different brands over the years. Never found anything that researched out for superior end product quality, plenty of easier/cheaper, or even equal to, not better. The only lines I’ve seriously considered switching to are AN, FloraFlex and Jack’s . . . I’ve been on the fence about AN for years. (I’m old and set in my ways) Seems like over the past 10-15 years home growers are all about easier and faster . . . 2-3 part nutrients, premix supersoil, autoflower beans, etc.
All that being said . . . a person can grow some very nice bud using just MiracleGro soil and nutrients if they know how to use it for cannabis.
Stellar picture, plants look strong and happy!
I haven’t heard of FloraFlex no, thanks for the heads up. It does look available over here.
The main lines the local shops carry are things like Biobizz, Canna, Atami, Plagron, Topcrop, Boom etc.
They all seem fairly similar tbh, with the same product types, just slightly different formulations.
I seem to be overthinking the whole thing in my search for dankness - I’ve been trying to figure out why so many of my plants have turned out tasteless.
How is it possible one in four plants is A+ and the others an F. If one is good then the grow setup must have been ok or all plants would have been uniformly bad no?
This is the order I am going to tackle things in the next run and see if I can improve my flavors:
Genetics - from what I’ve researched this is the number one factor by far. Thinking of doing a faceoff between the best of US and EU genetics. At least if my weed is still shite after that then I will know its me that is at fault ![]()
Dry & cure - my wine fridge dry was good in terms of keeping the temp down but the humidity was too high for most of the time. Thinking of adding a dehu or exhaust fan to the fridge to have better control and get that 60F 60% zone dialled in.
Tent location - is in a basement room with zero air circulation. Even though I added a CO2 bag I think that the stale air in the room is defo not helping things. Going to move the tent to a new location with better ambient fresh airflow. May supplement CO2 as well, not sure yet.
Nutes - gonna switch to synthetics for more control and see if it makes much difference. Not expecting much as apparently blind testing end product is inconclusive. Just want to do for the experience tbh.
That’s my plan, if my weed turns out tasteless again after all that then my final throw of the dice will be to pheno hunt for mothers.
@SJ1 as far as taste goes, I think I would agree that Genetics is the biggest factor. Also, dialling in your drying will help retain any flavour it had, and also consider 6-8 week cure so that the terpene profile has a chance to mature. I am lucky to have my dedicated drying tent locked in the 60%-61% RH zone.
Regarding doing everything yo can to increase flavour during the growing stage, these would be my suggestions to give the plant the Best Change to produce surplus trichomes and have plenty of stored sugars:
Silica - This is the pre-cursor to trichome production. It also strengthens the cell walls of plant. Stronger plant = heavier buds. Dr. Bruce Bugbee says that they feed a lot of silica, the plants love it.
Increasing the Brix level in the plant:
a. Add Humic & Fulvic acid to the feeding schedule.
b. To test the Brix levels, you would need to purchase a Brix refractometer to test the levels in the plant (cheap on amazon). If you can get the Brix level above 10, the plant will be very resilient to mold and pests, but also will “Taste Sweeter”…
Farmers who produce fruits and vegetables with Brix levels higher than 12 can charge Top Dollar for their produce. As a reference, your local grocery store produce is likely closer to 6-7 Brix.
I hope this helps.
Great suggestions thank you. I do already add humic and fulvic acids, but do not measure the brix level. Will investigate.
Silica has been on my list forever but this is the push I needed to get some, thanks!
And lastly, what temperature do you have your drying tent set to?
The drying tent temperature ranges from 17°C-18°C/62.6°F-64.4°F with out adding AC in the room. The ideal temperature is about 16°C/60°F, or lower even… the cool temperatures will help preserve the trichomes, as I’m sure you know ![]()
I can attest to silica being crucial, I’ve used it for all my grows. Love that stuff
@Graywave , can I ask what type of silica you use? type and brand? I am using CannaMax Potassium Silicate. I used it every feed to ph up.
Guess I know what ferts im shoping for this week lol i have a few of my training plants avout mid flower. Also planning to convert their tent into drying tent. Gotta see if I can cool the air down to 60. It’s in the basement, so in theory should be far off.
For curing, the grove bags sounded like a good investment since i dont own any jars or things similar enough.
Organic growing is where I was wanting to go, figures with living soil and dry ammendments, organic growing cant be that bad. I did read that using chems on living soil kills it. And here I baught a bottle of tiger bloom, and it’s not organic. But if all this, well guess they ladies are feasting tonight!
Oh and here’s my lil porch buddy! No worries, if anyone is growing near enough, they’re trespassing. He’s roughly 80 days old. Been through some days to, but he’s a tough bastard (literally)
And here’s Gobekli’s Cola in growth! @ 80 days ish
Canna is a great brand. I use silica powder from Kelp4Less, I get my whole nutrient regimen from there besides pH Up/Down. Most of their products are water soluble powders
OMG, I am so glad I asked that last question!!!
I just checked out all the products at Kelp4Less and my mind was like:
I have no real reason to switch from them. Their grow pack comes with calmag and veg nutes in separate bags. And bloom pack comes with 3 different nutes for the different weeks of flower plus boosters. And they have powdered un-sulphured black strap molasses, water soluble enzymes. I really like their products. Not having to haul jugs of nutrient concentrates is a big plus for me. It’s also pretty inexpensive… I could go on lmao
I placed my first order! With a 15% Discount baby!:
Here is the 15% Discount Code I used: PRINCEGARDENING
Awesome, I use yucca in spray bottles for foliar spraying and my nutrient bucket. I use soil and immediately noticed a difference with yucca. The water just melts into the soil with just a small amount, maybe 1/16 tsp instead of having drainage points tunneling down. I would have recommended trying their extreme blend for foliar spray. One of my new favs from there
