Day 65 / Bloom Day 14

Granita continues to produce plenty of bud sites.
Lighting is currently at 200 Watts with a DLI of 20-27, the PPFD is around 400-650 in the corners and center. In 7 days, everything between the nets will be removed, leaving behind a small sea of buds that almost all receive the same amount of light. The goal is to let the buds swell so massively in weeks 5 and 6 that controlled calyx stacking occurs.

For those who are interested:
The PPFD is secondary (for me) because it only reflects the current light intensity hitting the plant. The DLI indicates how much the plant actually absorbs over the 12-hour or 18-hour period and is therefore primary.

It was also the best decision to switch from organic to mineral. For a long time I stubbornly wanted to grow organically, but mineral gives you much more control. And ever since I switched from ready-made CalMag to Mono Calcium and Mono Magnesium and mix the ratio myself, it’s a thousand times better.
A little side note:
If the base water doesn’t have a Calcium to Magnesium ratio of 2:1 - 4:1, adding a ready-made CalMag doesn’t do much. In the case of an imbalance, that would only create even more imbalance.

Nutrient schedule for 6 liters of tap water with an EC of 0.2 and 7.5 pH value:

Per liter:
120mg Mono Calcium and 40mg Mono Magnesium to bring the EC value to 0.8.
1ml Plagron Power Buds for generating many bud sites.
Approx. 2-3ml Plagron Terra Bloom until the EC value reaches 1.5.
Plagron pH Minus - pH value 6.4

I don’t feed according to manufacturer instructions or chart, but according to the values of my tap water. Anyone can view these values online for their region. They contain all the information about the water :slightly_smiling_face:

That’s already a good direction you’re pointing out regarding what the calcium-magnesium ratio indicates.
And I agree that a ready-made CalMag isn’t the first choice and usually doesn’t fix the imbalance easily either.
So I’m tempted to adjust it a little right now with just magnesium sulphate, and I think I’m gradually moving more and more towards mineral as well.
I don’t buy ready-made Dope Soil - Dope Lite anymore and only use self-mixed soil with Flo Dünger, and I think that’s coming to an end too because the last fertilizer is used up, so there’s one more run of automatics in 3% living soil.
Then the Bio Tabs will be used until that’s gone too, and I work here with dolomite lime and rock dust to counter the calcium magnesium in the water.
That’s why I’m already practicing starting seedlings with mineral fertilizer and I’m already seeing a completely different growth. Much faster.
That everything is totally on course for you can be seen at the top, but also from the roots showing up on the soil surface.
It’s just well balanced in your case. Doesn’t apply to all water, as it probably varies in every location.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a proper breakdown of what comes out of the tap.
Just roughly.
But what the waterworks provides can also differ, because other factors like house pipes and their age, whether copper, lead, or whatever, play a role too.
To be completely in the picture, you’d have to analyze it yourself in a lab.
So I’ve been looking into this for quite some time. That’s why I know for a start that I have more calcium than magnesium.
I haven’t had ready-made CalMag on my shelf for a long time.
Greetings and happy growing, Paule

Yo, and wishing everyone a great day.
Wow, - that was the fastest online purchase. Ordered the Bluelab Guardian WiFi yesterday for my cutting/seedling propagator with aeroponic irrigation.
It just arrived already, even though it was announced for tomorrow.
So let’s get straight to business, turn this thing on, and keep an eye on the water parameters like EC, pH, and temperature.
Now, that wouldn’t really be necessary for the short time they spend in there.
But later on, it will allow keeping a constant eye on the nutrient solution in the tank as well - gold standard.
Only thing - did it really have to get so warm again right during the last few days of the Wedding Cake???
I raised the RH to 50% earlier because it was getting too warm in the tent.
Lowered the dimmers further down to just 65%. At least that got me one degree lower than before.
Yesterday A.Skittlez 1 was barely visible - today she’s already standing 3.5 cm tall.
All three are on seedling day 2 today, the second one is at 4.5 cm and the new Wedding Cake is 4 cm.
With that, they are already only 14 - 15 cm away from the light.
No need to turn up the light level anymore either. Both A. Skittlez are also already showing their first root tip under the rockwool.
So the water swirl is running more often now, delivering food directly to the source.

The final 18 L living soil pot for A.S. 1 is placed in front of the balcony door again to get a bit more light, because the cover crop is already taking over.

Measured the intensity coming through yesterday evening at light level 2 pretty much at the height of A.S. 1.

And she took care of getting even stronger light herself by getting closer to it.

So that’s how they are standing today.

and at the bottom, the first root tips are showing.
Only next time I’ll use a cutter to trim the dry rockwool a bit more so the cubes go deeper into the net pot.
Once they were already wet, I didn’t want to do much anymore, otherwise I would have crushed them.
Tomorrow I’ll take another magnified look at the trichomes of the Wedding Cake.
Probably for the last time then. Harvesting on Sunday, and I’m doing a bud washing for her too because she spent a few weeks on the balcony.
The thrips infestation back then, removing affected leaves.
It stopped again. Had placed a blue sticky trap over the soil, right around the stem so the critters from the soil couldn’t get up the stem in the first place.
But still, I’m going to wash the buds and let them drip off and pre-dry overnight hanging on the boom mic stand.

:joy: it’s like Christmas all over again.
Time to unbox it now and get everything up and running.
Cool - the vet just called to share the blood test results, and everything with Gizmo is great so far. Even the one liver value that was borderline elevated has improved a bit.
Everything else OK, and the only thing remaining is just aging, which simply happens too fast for a dog. But at 12 years old, this gives peace of mind that he’ll still stick around for a while. Even if he’s getting slower and lazier.
So I’ll immerse myself in the room, where the ladies are, and create a pleasant surveillance state - in my state.
Always keep an :eye_in_speech_bubble: on pH and co!
Have a nice weekend everyone, and stay high!

I agree with you there. A bit of experimenting on your own is always part of it, of course.

I use Plagron Grow Mix myself as my main soil and Lightmix for starting seeds. Since I repotted roughly every three to four weeks, I needed very little fertilizer during the vegetative stage itself, as the soil is pre-fertilized with mineral nutrients. The only extra thing I put into the soil is mycorrhizae from Dynomyco.
Gladly even a bit more of it than the manufacturer recommends (I can never get enough of that).

I have tap water as well as RO water here.
In my previous place, I found out after two years that my tap water had a CalMag ratio of 19:1 and wondered for two years why my plants always failed during flowering and suffered a total lockout. Ever since then, I strictly calculate everything. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

What you’re showing there is definitely impressive.
Yeah, I’ve already done a soil change too. Now for BioTabs I’m also using Plagron Bio Light Mix and Cocos Brix.
Because everything is still organic.
Later on, though, for mineral growing I’m eyeing Canna Terra Plus because it’s also slightly pre-fertilized with mineral nutrients.
For fertilizer, I came across VBX through SANlight. Supposed to be very fool-proof, so just the right thing for me! :joy:
An all-in-one fertilizer, as a powder to mix in. According to the manufacturer, 4 g per 5 L of water.
8 g per 10 liters, with increasing amounts as growth progresses, with EC value specs in the schedule.
For cuttings and seedlings, an EC of 0.9. That’s what they write.
Yesterday I only put 0.4 g in 5 L of water and was already at almost EC 0.6. Good enough for seedlings for now. That puts me right in the sweet spot.
I assumed, though, that mycorrhizae makes no sense with mineral nutrients???
Oh well, if it dies off, it won’t do any harm to the plant in mineral either.
Yeah, 19 to 1, that’s brutal. Clearly that causes problems starting in flowering and usually even before that. Water alone is the be-all and end-all. You’ve definitely found the right way. You can see it in the vitality of the plants.
Though I’ve had some awesome grows already, my head tells me there’s still room for improvement. Yeah, and that’s where I want to get.
Your experience and knowledge will also be a great addition to this site. But now I need to get my toys running.
Have fun continuing to grow and great success!

Alright, now the thing is up and running - paired with the phone, and if something’s not quite right, we’ll make it fit.
Must say though;
no matter what hornet’s nest you jump into, a boomerang always comes flying back.
What a Fuck !
And all the things you have to think about. Water temperature! And that rose today along with the inside temperature because it was warmer again today, which meant inside the apartment too, such shit.
Well, so I turned the LED back to level 1. That brought it down by 2 degrees already. Aside from that, they were getting pretty close to the lights anyway, but with a 13 / 14 cm distance, it’s still okay.
What matters more is the carbonate hardness in the water, which makes the pH value dance wildly despite dilution with osmosis water. Because due to the weak nutrient solution, the whole thing doesn’t buffer as it should yet. Despite standing water, the jump from yesterday’s 5.8 to today was back up to pH 7.
Now I stirred in another 0.2 g of fertilizer powder and a few drops of pH down so it’s back at pH 5.8. The stuff needs to stabilize soon, and I’ve now cooled the water down to 21 degrees using ice packs. Above 24 degrees it gets critical. I’ll have to manage like this for now because that’s the downside of summer. I’ve put a timer on the water circulation so it doesn’t run continuously. The roots are still too small for that and the risk of the wool getting too wet is too big. Also, running the pump continuously generates heat. Now it runs for 15 minutes followed by 45 minutes of quiet. Every hour. Plenty of time for the wool to drain so the water doesn’t displace all the air pores.
Despite the thermostat, I took the heater rod out now, because even at night the room doesn’t drop below 20 degrees. And neither does the water in the tub.
That’s probably also the issue: a fresh nutrient solution mixed with hard water goes a bit crazy with the pH in the first 48 hours.
But I have a much better handle on that now because I can see it directly and adjust it.
Another delivery has already been announced for tomorrow. :joy:
Awesome, could be like this every day.
The Mephisto beans coming via Spain are already nearby.
God knows where they live. Even had to go through customs.
I just gave the cover crop in the living soil a few more cover crop seeds so it becomes a dense carpet around the pot. :joy:
And now the day is coming to an end. I’m gonna scarf down a few sandwiches and then light up a bedtime joint.
Wishing myself a nice evening! You guys too - Stay High :joy:

Good morning, dear worries - are you all here already! Teehee.

As you can see in the picture, I won the st(ru)ggle against carbonate hardness.
The pH is stable and hasn’t increased anymore.
Exchanged 2 ice packs right in the morning, so the water temperature stays below 24 degrees.
That’s good. Above that, it displaces oxygen.
Now the problem was, despite the opening on the lid being open, the front seedling had water droplets.
On its top.
Now I put something under the dome to have a 1 cm air gap all around. It lowers the overall RH a bit, but 70 - 73 % is still enough.
I wrapped aluminum foil around the tub in the hope that room temperature wouldn’t directly affect the water temperature as much.
Well, to go fully with water as a medium, a water chiller would also be needed.
Even a 5 l reservoir causes endless trouble. I’ll be glad when they’re in soil.
But this way, there’s also the chance to see the roots growing. In soil, you only see what’s above it.
The roots of the 2 A. Skittlez Auto have grown further in length, and on the Wedding Cake, they’re still inside the rockwool.
The cube is also a bit thicker.
Now it’s time to get out for a bit.
Have a nice day

And another weekend comes to an end.
The upcoming week starts right off with 2 doctor’s appointments. First to the primary doctor for new meds and then back to the dentist.
I’m not happy at all with the upper set of teeth. Too far out in the front, and on the inside palate there’s just pressure, so after a while it starts throbbing and pulsing.
Because it doesn’t fit at all. God knows why they took 2 impressions.
And on the bottom right I can’t chew because the one filed-down tooth, crowned as an anchor, is suddenly sensitive to cold and heat, and on top of that it hurts from pressure when chewing. After three weeks. Awesome stuff.
And then something like that costs a few thousand euros. Tsk tsk tsk!
When smoking, it pulls on my upper lip because, as I said, the upper part is way too big.
What I find even worse is that because it sticks out too far at the front, food gunk is constantly stuck up there and I can’t sweep it away with my tongue anymore, because my tongue can’t reach all the way up there with a pile of plastic and tooth in the way. Mmmh - all of that worked fine before.
They’re redoing this - definitely, I’m not a horse
So tomorrow I’ll gallop over there and whinny around a bit. :joy:
Meanwhile, at the end of the thing, my palate is sore because it’s pressing in too deep, and it basically needs to be ground down to 0 so it stops pressing there.
I’m really curious to see how this goes from here.
Satisfied is something else!
And so the drama continues instead of finding peace.
But everything else has to go on, and part 1 for today is done.
Today I gave the Wedding Cake Auto - hopefully - a gentle end.
The light didn’t even turn on today.
Earlier, I cut out branch by branch, defoliated, and trimmed the sugar leaves a bit. Then I swished the buds in a baking soda and lemon wash for 30 seconds, gently shook off the water, and repeated the process twice more in clear water.
Now she’s hanging upside down on the gallows rack, dark in the tent at 50 - 55% RH for the remaining water to drip off at 22 degrees, and later in the evening she’ll go into the drying cabinet at 19.9 degrees and an initial RH of 64 - 65%, which will quickly drop down to 62 - 63%.

So I used the dark background in the tent to take the last few pictures with flash again, and I feel that’s when the colors of the buds really come out.
And I noticed she was done when removing her leaves. Most of it came off without scissors, they were hanging so limply from the branch. But she also turned out really nicely frosty, and once again - this time it was cheap potting soil. None of that extra expensive cannabis soil.
And yet she delivered perfectly. Sticky, to the point where the tacky fingers were almost annoying, surrounded by a pleasant scent.
I’m already excited for the first smoke.

This was during bud washing, and here I’m at 20 degrees water temperature.
Not too cold so trichomes break, and not too warm so they melt away on me.

Starting from the bottom, the first part was hanging.

And so a remainder of this splendour stood alone in the tent.

And as I kept working my way up, it kept getting more intense.
Because having a part of me in the background, with this sea of blooms in front of me, makes it a bit clearer.
The beast wasn’t that small after all. The last 2 flower heads were almost as long as my arm.
I’m curious to see what the whole thing weighs on the scale once dried.
It’s not a record yield, but still very satisfying.

Now, because it was washed, everything is still hanging in the tent, dark, with a light breeze blowing over it and mild exhaust at around 55% RH for pre-drying so the last excess water can drip off; later, when the Amnesia Skittlez leaves the Cannatrol packed in Grove Bags, she will move in there to be dried very gently at stable values.
I ended up cutting the giant pieces down a bit smaller because it’s safer during drying. Wouldn’t want it to rot so close to the finish line.

That’s the pitiful remainder of her existence, and what ends up in the bag later will surely bring some joyous hours.
So both tents are empty for now. Pretty much!
Tomorrow the deep cleaning and disinfection starts in the big one.
Only in the propagator are the next 3 seedlings already standing, and actually I didn’t need to adjust the pH anymore. It did drift upward, but so slowly that it’s fine doing nothing until tomorrow.
The only thing is putting a frozen 250 ml bottle into the basin 2 times a day to keep the water temperature at 20 - 23.5 degrees.
It’s just that the little ones are gradually getting so tall that I already had to shim the LED strips to raise them a bit for the light distance.
I’ll probably put them into soil tomorrow and right a bit deeper so they get good support and can root even more.
Now the drying and curing in the cabinet is finished and it’s running in hold mode. Time to pack the A. Skittlez into bags.
Still have some stuff to do today. Wishing you a good start to the week.
Greetings from Paule

Apart from your never-ending dentist debacle.. @Pflanzenpaul
Give him a good roasting.

Mei mei mei, as a Bavarian would probably say.. (no idea :joy::victory_hand:t3:)

Paule showing off his belly :face_blowing_a_kiss: cool, did he tattoo himself on his torso, Paule on the drum with the P on his cap? Or something like that.

Anyway, a great contrast to the super wedding cake headbud.

Nice :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Here the Titan switched tents because, as you can see

The Hulkberry in the middle needs the space just as much as the Runtz on the left.

Oh well, let her live with the little ones. That’s how it is.

Smells good already, will get even better

Glitter :sparkles: Glitter :sparkles:

I wish EVERYONE here without exception a speedy recovery. You can always use that :zany_face::smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Good luck at the doc’s, grit your teeth as we’d say here :oncoming_fist:t3:
Otherwise awesome :hammer: to see how you treat these beautiful plants. Especially the “washing” of the buds, I’ve never seen that before.

@KilliczGe looking super good on your end. I’m always fascinated by the size of the tent :tent: and the Field of Green look :ok_hand:t3:

Happy Grow yall

@SmartPlants
I only wash what was outdoors. Though she was in the tent for the last 4 weeks, before that she was on the balcony for a long time.
So bird poop and gnat poop gone.
That distorts the taste. Hehehe.
@KilliczGe forgive me for my posture with the head bud.
I had trouble keeping my balance. Hehehe.
Almost pulled me forward right off my chair.
Man, at least three trays full of fat dicks.

Now she’s laid to rest in the cabinet .
And the second Amnesia Skittlez brought 3x more than the first one.
We’ll see !
Now the third run with these autos is running.
As the saying goes .
All good things come in threes .
 Going well
Awesome, your last 2 pictures .
Nice white buds. And already super frosty. :ok_hand:

34ºc… and when I opened it, it was at 37ºc, about 40 minutes after lights on, crazy, if I don’t open the tent… now they’re at 32ºc
:frowning: I hate summer, even so they handle it as best they can, but they handle it xD
just a little longer, a little longer and the summer torture is over :f

the Amnesia and the Picchu went through the roof… too much veg, the seed bank already indicated it xD

My ladies are having a tough time right now. And so is their gardener

I’ve been growing for almost 2 years and I still don’t have it 100% down when it comes to the right nutrients at the right time + correct manual watering habits.
I have to admit, maybe it’s not exactly wise to grow 4 different strains at once with my level of experience. Every time, I’ve had strains that handled my handling really, really well, and this time there are 2 ladies again having issues in the 7th week of veg.

About the strains (Picture 1)

Back left: Enemys Dream
Back right: Runtz x Layer Cake
Front left: Pineapple Kush
Front right: Jelly Cake

About the problems

Some of you will recognize it right away and be able to say something about it when seeing the pictures. But for me, it’s still an intensive learning process and I am completely open to criticism, because only through criticism can you move forward in a positive way :folded_hands:t3:

The Runtz in the back right had a nutrient deficiency, I reacted too quickly and watered… resulting, of course, in a nutrient lockout. The lady was drooping. I nursed her back to health quite well. But my mistake was that I defoliated and trained her anyway, and I think right now she is too stressed from everything, so I’m leaving her alone for now.

(Runtz)

The Pineapple Kush in the front left also started with a nutrient deficiency, I’ve already counteracted it to the best of my knowledge and hope it doesn’t get any worse

(Pineapple)

I wanted to start flowering in about 1 week, but only if everything looks good again. I want to spend a week now doing nothing except watering when necessary.
Otherwise, I’m actually pretty happy with my 7th grow so far

Greetings to all and have a nice night :folded_hands:t3:

Already got a headache early in the morning and I have to leave soon. What a pain.
Tell me, how big are your pots? What’s your watering schedule like? How much and at what intervals?
Are you using mineral fertilizer and if so, with runoff (drain)?
Last picture bottom right, the side leaf serrations.
In my Living Soil, those were signs of overwatering.
The larger the pots, the wetter it can be at the roots.
With mineral feeding, improper water management causing salt build-up at the root zone could be the culprit.
I see a Calcium deficiency.

In the pictures, various symptoms can be seen that point to an interplay of several stress factors.

Overview of the most likely causes:

Cal/Mag deficiency or nutrient lockout (pH level)

Symptoms:
In picture 2, you can clearly see brown rust spots, yellowing leaf edges (chlorosis), and burnt leaf tips in the middle/lower area of the plant.
Possible cause:
Typical sign of a calcium or magnesium deficiency. Often the problem isn’t an actual lack of nutrients, but a pH problem in the substrate/runoff, preventing the roots from absorbing nutrients properly (lockout). An unfavorable calcium-to-magnesium ratio in the watering solution also slows down absorption.

Root pressure / Watering habits (over- or under-watering)

Symptoms:
The upper leaves and shoot tips are drooping slightly (“drooping”), even though they don’t look dried out.
Possible cause:
In the Air-Pots being used, the substrate (coco/soil) dries out unevenly or quite quickly due to good aeration.
If the substrate is kept too moist, oxygen deficiency occurs at the roots.
If it gets too dry, the salt content (EC value) in the substrate spikes suddenly, leading to burns on the leaf tips.
Slight nutrient excess (Nutrient Burn)

Symptoms:
The light/yellow and slightly brown leaf tips on the fresh, upper leaves.
Possible cause:
The EC value of the nutrient solution is slightly too high, or fertilizer salts have accumulated in the substrate (especially in coco/perlite mixes if not watered regularly with sufficient drain/runoff).
Light / Heat stress

Symptoms:
The topmost leaf edges are partially curling up slightly or curving, and the light green in the fresh growth looks a bit stressed.
Possible cause:
If the light (e.g., Mars Hydro FC-E) is hanging too close at high intensity, it massively increases the plants’ water and nutrient consumption, making deficiencies visible much faster.

What exactly applies in detail is hard to say without knowing your process.
But a few tips might help.
Just the ratio of Calcium to Magnesium in the water, if that’s off, it causes issues.
Stick a longer wooden skewer down toward the root zone, leave it there for a few minutes and pull it back out.
To see if it’s wet.
Are you feeding mineral fertilizers? Is the pH okay and are you watering with runoff? If not, flush out the salts. Measure the EC of the runoff.
With pure organic, that doesn’t do anything. Because that would just wash out the soil life and dissolved nutrients even more.
Oops, gotta run.
Have a nice day and greetings from Paule

Hey @Pflanzenpaul

First of all, massive thanks for your extensive feedback :star_struck: brutally well observed, everything.

I hope your jaw is doing okay?! :folded_hands:t3:

These are 12 L pods
25x25
Watering amount initially 300-500 ml and currently a constant 1 L for 2 weeks
Runoff was a lot with the initial increase, now less again. I notice the girls have different levels of thirst.
Every 3 days the first 3 cm of the medium are completely dry and I have to water.
pH watered so far constantly around 6.3
I grow completely organic
Soil is a kind of Light Mix, just not from Bio Bizz
During the last watering yesterday I gave a nice mix with potassium, calcium, and magnesium, I really hope it stops now and doesn’t get any worse.

Just took a current photo and compared to yesterday it already looks better regarding the drooping

Yesterday Runtz

Today Runtz

Thank you for your help, I will keep monitoring it and if necessary increase my CalMag :folded_hands:t3:

Big grow greetings

Today was the first time giving new nutrients for the soil, including magnesium sulfate in the fertilizer. (Good when you actually read the label for once.)

Terra Aquatica - Pro organic Bloom : 2.2ml/l
Effective Microorganisms :microbe: active : 4ml/l

2l in total from the top into the pot. So everything in the soil gets nicely fed and distributed. The rest went into the saucer so the roots get supplied directly.

In short: Everyone is doing well.

And the experiments, I’ll show those another time.
