That’s how it is.

I have some good examples in the automatic tent right now too.

The colors on the leaves are leaning more towards yellowish red
But the buds, on the Runtz there are long fingers that keep getting thicker.

With the Papaya, rather thicker nugs that wind their way up like DNA :dna:, they are already nice and hard too.

Today another 10l were added to the tray. Final stretch here too

I’ve seen people germinate their seeds in a glass of water and leave them in there for so long that they stuck out above the water—I mean the seedlings, not the seeds.

Just got another email from Ganja Farmer Seeds. They want to know how I germinate. On top of that, they want pictures of the seed packaging and pictures of the seeds that didn’t germinate.:face_vomiting: The seeds are in the trash, I am definitely not digging them out for them. I still had the little baggies, so they got pictures of those. There’s even an expiration date on them, actually they’re supposed to be good until 2030, Awesome stuff, I would’ve had a few more years left to complain. Reply sent, now it’s back to waiting again .

Greetings to everyone

Honestly that’s a crap policy. Makes it so there a burden on the customer to prove claims. Not many customers would think to save the seed packet and take pictures of the failed seeds. I never save packaging once the seeds are in the germination process. Also a customer could take pics of random seeds like it makes no sense it’s just a way to have deniability and fuck over the customer. Glad I didn’t spend money. They’ll get a negative review on reddit and I’ll never give them my money. Do better @ganjafarmerseeds

@BluntForceTrauma420 I took a look at their online reviews, 4.8 out of 5 stars. Reason given: fast shipping and cheap. I think people didn’t wait until germination with that. It probably would have been a bit different otherwise. I’m curious to see their next response.

Search them on reddit, there are tons of complaints. Some of them are probably the ones that reviewed prematurely. It sucks I hate to be a Karen/Kyle person but seeing the burden of proof being on me the customer I won’t have a leg to stand on with my complaint especially since I can’t even prove they sent me seeds. I’ll give them time to reply before I bad mouth them, they deserve a chance, I guess. I wish I had pics. One seed had a strange tip on the pointy side almost like a shriveled tap root peaking out, one was still creamy colored (immature) only 1 seed looked viable. I just order more permanent marker from a buddy who has a few packs from the original breeder (seed junky). I expect a much different with those.

@herr_gruen
That’s why I have a printed profile for every seed pack, which also says where I got them from.
But on the other hand, the statement alone unfortunately isn’t enough.
They want pictures of everything and to know how you germinated.
Then they ask about the RH and the temperature. So provide all of that right away to avoid a long back-and-forth.
That was the case for me with Zamnesia, with the Kalini Asia, and that was the only one I complained about so far because 2 out of 3 were duds and the one that came turned out to be a hermaphrodite.
Because that annoyed me so much, I filed a complaint and in the end, upon request after asking, I got another strain with three free seeds.
Now the failures were the one Tropical Kush or the photoperiod Wedding Cake from RQS, pure freebie beans.
Why would I bother putting in the work, all the back-and-forth.
For something that didn’t cost me anything.
Of course, a bad aftertaste remains, and I can see now regarding the Wedding Cake that it couldn’t have been my fault that it didn’t germinate in damp cotton wool.
Because the Permanent Marker went into the exact same damp cotton wool.
Yesterday I just took the Wedding out of there and threw it in the bin, put the other one on the cotton wool and the other piece of cotton wool on top of it, put it in a Ziploc bag, and without even soaking this bean in water, today it’s already showing a tiny root tip. All under the same conditions. Same temp and today even a degree cooler in the room at only 21 degrees.
In December I ordered from a grow shop and got the 2 Tropical freebies with it.
So here too. What should I claim now? It was just nothing then. Oh well, one of them is growing.
Sure, there might be some who germinate completely in water.
Whether that really works out in the end.
People just talk a lot.
Maybe it all comes down to the seed size in the end and whether there’s an air chamber inside.
The fact is that if they stay in water for usually longer than 24 hours, no oxygen gets to them anymore, and oxygen is important for healthy germination.
Exceptions prove the rule. If the water is oxygen-rich, it can stay in there longer and still germinate.
I’m currently soaking a Jiffy plug. Once it’s fully soaked, I’ll squeeze it down to 36 grams, and then in the evening the PM goes in there if the root is long enough for me. This time, already in the water, 0.2 g Microbes and 1 ml Root Juice so the root can develop well. Before dropping it into the Jiffy, a little Myco and Tricho goes into the hole. And then hope that it keeps growing.
They are just extremely sensitive when they’re very young.
I think you’ll get a replacement from Ganja Farmer though.
It’s just annoying that you have to document it accurately with pictures and facts.
I haven’t even looked inside the tent today and I’m curious to see if another one shows up today or if there’s a failure.
But the cover crop on the living soil in the 18 L pot. Yeah, that’s overgrown.
And a nice, healthy green.
I’ve been pushing it aside all around every day so the mini plant inside doesn’t get overgrown.
At the moment I still have all my new Growlogs set to private.
For the PM, I documented it with pictures and described the germination procedure.
Since it’s only one bean that I have anyway, clones will follow later.
It’s probably the strongest thing growing at my place, if it grows. It’s listed at 32 - 34% THC. A bit heavy for my brain :joy:
Doesn’t mean it actually delivers what’s written. Let’s see!
I read up on the theory of germinating in water on the internet again.
It confirms what I wrote.
Option A

What happens underwater

  1. Soaking (Pre-germination): Placing the seeds in a glass of water for 12 to a maximum of 24 hours is a common method to soften the hard shell and trigger germination. In this phase, the oxygen bound inside the seed and the water is sufficient.

  2. Oxygen Deficiency & Rot: As soon as the seed splits open and the first small taproot (radicle) emerges, the plant’s oxygen requirement increases drastically. If the seed remains completely underwater, the tissue suffocates. Anaerobic bacteria form, and rot sets in – the seed dies.

  3. Lack of Buoyancy: Even if a seedling were hypothetically to continue growing, a plant underwater has no physical buoyancy or swimming mechanism that allows the seed to rise to the surface on its own. On the root side, the plant seeks gravity and support; on the stem side, light.

Conclusion

A short water bath (up to 24 hours) helps crack the shell. However, as soon as the root shows, the seed must be moved to a moist (not soaked) medium – such as damp paper towel, seed starter soil, rockwool, or Jiffy plugs – with sufficient access to oxygen.

Option B
That seeds germinate completely underwater and float to the surface as finished seedlings is a myth.

What really happens during underwater soaking

  • The 24-Hour Window: Submerging in water is a widespread method for soaking. The seed absorbs moisture, which softens the hard shell and starts enzyme activity. 12 to a maximum of 24 hours is enough for this.

  • Oxygen Deficiency (Anoxia): After soaking, the plant embryo desperately needs oxygen for metabolism and cell growth. Oxygen dissolved in water is depleted very quickly.

  • Drowning and Rot: If the seed stays underwater for longer than 24–48 hours, the embryo suffocates. Bacteria and fungi feed on the dead organic tissue, causing the seed to rot.

Why does this myth persist?

  1. Sinking Seeds: When a dry seed sinks to the bottom of a glass of water after about 12–24 hours, it merely shows that the shell has soaked up water and is viable (floating seeds are often duds). Staying at the bottom is mistakenly understood as the “start.”

  2. Minimal Taproot: Sometimes the shell opens while still underwater, and a tiny white root tip (radicle) emerges. If the seed is planted into soil or a growing medium at that exact moment, it survives. If it remains in the water, it dies.

  3. Surfacing Impossible: A seed has no self-propulsion or buoyancy mechanism to rise to the water’s surface on its own as a seedling.

Ideal practice

As soon as the seed has sunk in the water glass or slightly opened (after 24 hours at the latest), it belongs in a moist – but airy – medium such as a damp paper towel, starter soil, or Jiffy peat pellets. This gives the seedling the perfect balance of moisture and oxygen.

Like I said, exceptions prove the rule.
I prefer to stay on the safe side, though that’s not 100% either.
Because even directly in soil, cotton wool, Jiffy, 10% too much moisture can reduce germination by over 50%.
It’s a very fine line!
Now I’ll check on the Jiffy and prepare everything for planting.
Have a great day.

The problem with that is I’m all my years of experience with indoor and outdootlr I’ve never had seeds that looked like this and I basically never have a dud using this method. For me the burden of proof required will be them proving my seeds weren’t defective. I have some of the other seed I won planted in their final pot.. If these don’t germinate I know it’s not a me issue. But again one seed was deformed, one seed was immature and the 3rd was the only normal looking seed but it was smaller than the others by a lot. This is why I buy direct from breeders. I tell Humboldt seed company when 1 doesn’t germinate and they replae the whole pack plus throw in freedies too. It’s because they stand by their product knowing it’s top quality. I’ve had them send me a whole 10 pack because 2 seeds didn’t look right from my 10pk purchase. The difference is stark between just those two companies imaging comparing them to other companies.

Yesterday, as a replacement, I put a few of my own seeds into a moist paper towel to germinate. I packed away the ones that didn’t look ripe separately and only chose these ones, just wanted to know for sure. And tadaaa

Number one opened up after not even 24 hours and is showing more life than the ones from Ganja Farmer after 8 days.

I described my germination method to them, humidity plays no role here since they are in a moist paper towel. Warm and dark, just like I’ve been doing for 30 years. I won’t accept any claims of mistakes on my part. I’ll probably know more tomorrow.

It’s just nature, and you don’t have control over some things.
No question, when something doesn’t look like it should and many don’t pop.
I’m pissed off too and completely agree.
It shouldn’t be that the burden of proof is on the customer.
And unfortunately, pretenders jump on the heavenly hemp bandwagon too.
Who don’t stand behind their products, but deceptively just want to enrich themselves.
I personally can’t say anything about Ganja Farmer right now and wouldn’t claim anything I haven’t experienced myself.
So far I only have their Permanent Marker up and running.
Conclusion;
Yesterday placed in cotton wool, without soaking.
Today I put them in a Jiffy.
My process

But honestly! If you look at the bean where the root tip sticks out, it looks like a horror grimace with an ugly row of teeth.
It seems to be working for now, and as I mentioned earlier, a Wedding Cake promo freebie was in that same cotton 6 days prior and nothing came up, and the moisture of the cotton inside the ziplock bag stays.
Where I think another failure will be is the 2nd free Tropical Kush.
Germinated yes, but so deformed that it can’t get its cotyledons open, and I placed the Jiffy with it into Light Mix today and there was no root visible on the outside of the Jiffy.

A runt! Second day at a standstill. 8 days after starting germination.
Best example of this is the Jamaican.
Packed into Light Mix with Jiffy today as well. Germination started 6 days ago, which is why I repot them right away after they come out of the Jiffy.

There was already a good amount of root coming out the bottom. Yet yesterday only the stem loop was visible when it started coming out of the dirt.

And no matter how small it looks up top, the root is already coming out the bottom.
And this time it was a struggle for me too, a few seeds later.
I kept quiet until now.
Because I was pissed off at Mephisto.
It wasn’t even the long wait time, but how they turned out.
And what will germinate there, I’ll see.
They artificially and sneakily raised the prices of the seeds.
I had 50 dollars!
Ordered 5 x SODK
2 x Orange Diesel and total with shipping came to 48.15 dollars.
Was available just as ordered.
I have the order history.
What I got was 3 x SODK and 1x Orange Diesel. Then 2 freebies that don’t even have a strain profile on their site.
Overall I still received one less than ordered. Without freebies, 3 are missing.
So you can see it doesn’t always go fairly.
But it’s also clear I will never order anything from them again.
Since it didn’t cost me anything extra, I left it at that.
Doing things right is a different story.
It’s annoying and gives you the feeling that others are dumping their trash on you when there are so many duds.
On the other hand, I’d rather have something fail right at the start than have something turn hermie after weeks and ruin everything.
Because then the costs are even higher. And a lot of work for little quality.
Best to stay loyal to the one who delivers good stuff.
You feel like a guinea pig.
Here, take this—take a look.
Unfortunately, it’s hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. Unfortunately.
So I’m curious to see if the Tropical makes it.
Strange creature indeed. I gave its duck head some water in hopes that the cotyledons will open up. :joy:
I hope you guys get replacements and that things work out then.
Things aren’t going smoothly for a few people right now, it seems. Pity.

Seeds are pretty nice
I’ve mentioned before that with “white label seeds,” anything is possible.

As @BluntForceTrauma420 already said. Better to spend a few more euros and buy from real breeders. There are many seedbanks. You can also buy from Royal Queen Seeds and Zamnesia, just not their own white label brands. Although I haven’t tested those yet. You can always search beforehand using Google and AI to see if the breeders stabilize and breed their strains themselves or if they use clones.

I still use the glass of water method. 12-15 hours. Then into a Tupperware container / box with a lid and wet paper towels. Once the taproot is there, usually after 12-36 hours, into the soil it goes.
Out of over 50 plants and seeds, I only had 6 seeds that didn’t germinate.
However, this only reflects my own personal opinion and experience.

Little bits of info to remember:

Nowadays, Indica and Sativa don’t necessarily describe the effects anymore, but rather the growth behavior of the plant.
Many strains are so heavily crossbred that almost everything is a hybrid.
The effects are driven by terpenes and the entourage effect. Different terpenes, different compositions, different effects.

All well and good. And all correct. This is about seeds that went out as prizes, which seemingly had a high failure rate for some people.
Since I still have a lot of them myself, I have to work with them first.
But when buying new ones eventually, I’ll also prefer to spend a few more euros.

The good old stuff is unfortunately almost gone.
But there are also good hybrids.
Have a nice evening

So all my prize seeds from Ganjafarmer have germinated so far, two were on the balcony, well, balcony life.
The Runtz in the auto tent is from them and the two little ones, Mimosa Zkittlez Fast and Purple Cookies Fast :down_arrow:

Currently at flowering day 3 after the switch.

Nothing to complain about so far

That gives me hope for my other packs

Me neither. The first one of them has a bit of root as you can see.
Just looks like the shell wants to bite off the root.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t that lucky, in my case it was three different strains with three seeds each that failed.

Hello everyone:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Not nice what you read about Ganja Farmer, conveniently I can’t even get onto their site with my smartphone.

Probably better that way.

So far I’ve been lucky, all seeds have germinated for me. I also find it very unprofessional that the customer has to provide proof.

I’m also in the camp of rather spending a bit more money to have stable genetics than just taking a chance on blind luck, a shame about the invested money and time.

Unfortunately, you can’t rely on Trustpilot reviews either.

Best regards:grinning_face:
